Wk14 – Classmate Conversation – Elyse Vega

20170503_144958For this week’s classmate conversation, I spoke with San Diego native, Elyse, a Consumer Affairs major in her sophomore year at CSULB. Her major was the first thing that I asked her about and I was really intrigued when she revealed it since I realized that I know nothing about her major or what it entails; she explained that despite having changed it several times, she has finally settled on that as her major since it is all about maintaining customer service and making a profit out of it. She also voiced her frustrations about her career path since she describes herself as an excellent public speaker but is disappointed that her strength(s) as a human are best suited as a Communications major – a major she describes as being unfulfilling due to its inability to be of any use in the real world.

Despite feeling exasperated by life and the school system, she did mention that she enjoys blowing off some steam by participating in raves and festivals, such as Coachella (which she attended for the first time this year alongside her stage coach), having fun with her sorority members, and listening to music.

We bonded over our mutual love for old school hip-hop and rap, artists such as Kanye and Kendrick Lamar, and our reservations towards heavy metal.  She mentioned that recently she has become a fan of country as well as EDM thanks to her sorority sisters and likes to jam out to those beats in her dorm room.  She stated that she likes her dorm, as well as participating in outside activities, since she feels she can better learn how to work with others through these things – but also enjoys those experiences since they allow her to make friends. Elyse spoke about how she believes it’s a little disappointing how hard it is to make friends in school since everyone goes home after they’re done for the day because they live in the city and don’t usually hang around campus long enough for her to get to know them.

All in all, I thought Elyse was a lovely person and it is so crazy to me how I and this one girl who I’ve always thought wore really cool stuff (i.e. a Kanye West “The Life of Pablo” bomber jacket and awesome baseball caps) have so much in common and have never spoken before! To get to know more about Elyse and see why I believe she is so cool, you can check out her blog :).
